Now that you have finished setting up your Main Account and configured  your eShopping Cart or Secure eOrder System, it is time to enter your products into the database.
SETUP PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES
Return to Main Index
The first thing you should do is setup your product Attributes. A product attribute is a 'characteristic' of a product, which in turn offers options or choices that you offer your customers.  For example: If you sell shirts which you offer in a variety of sizes you would setup an attribute titled Size.  If you also offer the shirt in a variety of colors, you would need to setup another attribute titled Color.

Once you have titled your Attributes, you will then enter your Attribute Options. Attribute Options are the individual choices offered for each attribute. For example: An attribute titled Size might include Small, Medium and Large among it’s available Attribute Options.

The process for setting up Product Attributes is divided into three simple steps:

To Begin..
  • From the Web Merchant eManager select Setup Product Attributes from the drop down menu in the Product Related Activities section.
  • Click on the GO button.
You will be taken to a page entitled Setting Up A New Product Attribute.
First, select a display type for a product Attribute from the list.  There are three choices available: Radio Buttons, Check Boxes,  and Pop Up List.  Note that the Radio Buttons and Pop Up List will allow your customers to select only ONE of the Attribute Options you list.  Use the Check Boxes only if your customers may select more than one of your Attribute Options.
Next, give the product Attribute a title and type it into the box. For example: Size or Color.

When you’ve made your display selection and entered your title, click on the Create New Product Attribute button.  You will be taken to a new page, entitled Add An Option To the New Product Attribute.  Note that the Attribute title you entered into the box on the previous page will appear on this page. Check to be sure it is correct.  If you need to make a correction at this point you will NOT be able to use the back button on your browser.  Instead, you will need to enter Edit Attributes Mode.

Add An Option To the New Product Attribute
The previous step created a new product Attribute that you titled. It is now time to list the available Attribute Options that you will offer your customers for this particular Attribute.  For example, small, medium, large etc.  Attribute Options must be entered one at a time.
Enter the Attribute Option in the appropriate box.

Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page

To associate an additional cost with this Attribute Option, add the dollar amount ( without a dollar sign $ ) in the box provided. The amount entered will be added to the product price if selected by the customer.  For example: If you charge one dollar more than the regular price for an item in Extra Large, you would enter Extra Large in the Attribute Option box, and 1.00 in the box entitled Add this Dollar Amount.
Leave the Add this Dollar Amount box blank if there is no additional cost involved
Once you have entered an Attribute Option  and additional cost, if any, click on the Add Next button.  You will be returned to the same page, only now, below the Attribute Title you entered, there will be either a radio button, check box, or drop down list, depending on which display type you selected. Beside it will be the Attribute Option  you just entered, along with any additional dollar amount you may have entered.  The entry boxes will now be empty and ready for your next Attribute Option.

You will see your display being built right before your eyes!  If you make a mistake now however, you will not be able to use your back button to correct it. Instead, you will need to use the Edit Attributes Mode.  If you do not make any errors, click on the Done button when you are finished entering your product features. You will be returned to your Web Merchant eManager.

Edit Attributes Mode
At this point any corrections you need to make must be done in Edit Attributes Mode. If you still have additional Attribute Options  to add once you go into Edit Mode, you will need to add them in Edit Attributes Mode as well. To enter Edit Attributes Mode, click on the Edit Attributes Mode button. (You will find this button near the Add Next button)  You  will be taken to a page that looks like the one in the figure below.

To delete an item highlight the text in the form and use the backspace key on your keyboard to erase it.  You may also correct an error by erasing it, and typing in the correction.

When you are finished, click on the Save Attribute Changes button.

Adding Attribute Options In Edit Attributes Mode
Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page
After clicking the Save Changes button you will be returned to the same page, only now it will reflect the changes you just made.  There will also be one blank line at the bottom of the form. If you have further additions to make to your Attribute Options list,  you will need to add them here.

  • Type the Attribute Option you want to add into the appropriate boxes. (One option per line)
  • Click the Save Attribute Changes button.
Each time you do this you will get a new screen with your addition added to the form, and an extra blank line at the bottom of the form. Continue adding Attribute Options in this manner until you are finished.
When you are finished entering all of your Attribute Options, use the Return to Main Page link at the bottom of the page to return to your Web Merchant eManager.

Alphanumeric characters are best.
The maximum allowable length of your product code is 20 characters.
You should have a strategy behind your product codes, similar products having similar codes.

Title
Enter a title for the product or short description. Don't get too wordy.  This description should be appropriate for an invoice or receipt.

Attributes
List all of the Attributes available for this product by number.  This is the number you will find next to the Attribute  in the above form.  For example: If your product is a shirt, and it is available in both Color Attribute Options  and Size Attribute Options, then you will enter the number listed for your Color Attribute and your Size Attribute. Important: Separate Attribute numbers with a comma. (1,12, 4 )

EDIT PRODUCTS
You may edit product information after you have entered it. From your Web Merchant eManager select Products  from the drop down menu in the View Database section. Click on the red Edit This Record link above the product you wish to edit.

GENERATE CART HTML CODE
Now that you have entered your products into the database, as well as all of the other information needed by the system to create your complete eShopping Cart, it is time to link your web pages to it.  Important: You MUST enter all of your products into the database before  proceeding with this step.

At some point you may wish to add new products, and/or remove old products from the database. When you do this, you will also need to change the HTML code on your web pages.  For instructions on how to do this, see Generate New Code on Page 44  and Remove HTML Code on Page  45.

What Is HTML And Why Do I Need It??
Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page
HTML (hypertext markup language) is the code used to create most web pages. This code is "beneath" the page that the viewer actually sees, and in fact, it is this code that creates the page, specifying everything from simple background color and text formatting to complicated functions such as hyper-links. This is where you click on a certain image or text, and a specific event occurs. Usually you are taken to a linked URL or image. Sometimes another function is performed.

In order to connect your web pages to your eShopping Cart  you will need to insert "hyper-links" into your web pages. This will allow your customer to add items to their shopping cart with a click of the mouse, as well as view their cart, and when they are finished making their selections, go to your secure order form to complete their purchase.

HTML Code Generator
Because HTML is an extremely specific computer code language that the average person is not fluent in, an HTML code generator will create your links for you.  For this reason it is very important that you enter all of your products before proceeding. The HTML code generator will use the product information you have entered to create your links.  Once the code is generated, you must then insert the code into your web pages.

If you take a few moments to study the HTML code generated, you will quickly see a pattern of how a product code is the only item that changes for each set of product code.   With this information, you will be able to write the HTML code for any new products that you later add.

Text Links or Graphic Links?
Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page
You must now decide whether you will use text links or graphic links.  In simple terms, a hyper-link can be created using either plain text or a graphic image as it’s object, or "switch".  However, the decision must be made before the HTML code is generated so that the exact text or image can be written into the code.

A text link is simplest because everyone has the ability to see/read plain text. Because of this you will only need to copy/paste the code into your pages and you are done!

A graphic link is a bit more complicated.  In addition to inserting the HTML code into your web pages, you will need to install the specific graphic to be displayed on your server.  Before making your final decision, read through the following instructions for each procedure carefully. This should help you decide which is best for you.

To Begin..
  • From the Web Merchant eManager select Generate Cart HTML Code from the drop down menu in the Product Related Activities section.
  • Click on the GO button.

You will be taken to a page entitled HTML Code Generator.

Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page

Select either Text Links or Graphic Links.

Text Links:
  • Click on the radio button to select Text Links.
  • Click on the button labeled Continue

You will be taken to a page where you may elect to download the text file zipped.   If you have entered a large number of products it is recommended that you select Download Zip File to shorten the download time.  If you download a zipped file you will need to unzip the file once it’s on your own computer, then open the file in a text editor to view it.
If you elect to download the text file unzipped, a plain text page will be displayed. This page will include all of the HTML code that you will need for your cart and your products. Use the “Select All” and “Save” functions on your browser to copy and save the page.

Return to Main Index     Return to Top of Page

The file you download will look something like the one shown in the figure.  At the top there will be HTML code for View Cart and Checkout  links.  As these two links remain the same, they will appear only once each. You need only copy/paste the code into the page(s) where you want the links to appear.

The remaining codes will be Add to Cart links, one for each product you entered into the database.  You will be able to tell which sets of code are for what by  referring to the product code numbers within each set.

All you need to do now is simply copy/paste the code into the web page(s) where you want each link to appear.
Once you have finished pasting the HTML code into your web pages your eShopping Cart will be up and ready for your first customer!!

Graphic Links

  • Click on the radio button to select Graphic Links.
  • Copy the graphics from the page with your browser’s "Copy This Image" feature, or download the zip file of images from the "Download" link.
  • Upload the three individual graphics to the root web directory on your site. (The same directory where your homepage is located)
  • View the graphics on your site with your browser to make sure they are viewable by the world.
  • Return to the HTML code generator  and continue with the HTML link code generation for your products.
  • Now go back and follow the instructions for Text Links beginning by clicking on the Continue button.
Generate New Code
If, at some point, you have new products that you wish to add to your eShopping Cart you will first need to enter them into the database. You will do this in the same way you entered your original list of products.  After you have done this, you have two choices for creating the new HTML code.
You may  use the existing product code you already have as a template, replacing the product code number with your new product code number.
Or, you may repeat the process for generating code with the HTML Code Generator. If you do it this way, note that code will be generated for ALL of the products in your database. You will need to go through the list and find the code set for your new product(s)
Either way, once you have the code for your new products, you will only need to paste it into your web pages.

Remove HTML Code
If, at some point, n you wish to remove a product from your web pages you need only delete the code for that product. Please note that this removes the product from your web page only.
